Sponsored Post:

My decision to seek the mandate to represent the people of Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives is based on a clear commitment to effective legislation, accountable representation and purposeful advocacy for development.I believe the people deserve to know not only what their representative hopes to achieve, but also what the law permits a federal legislator to do and how that mandate will be exercised.

My priorities will be clear:

1. EFFECTIVE LEGISLATION

I will support, sponsor or co-sponsor legislative proposals that advance the interests of our constituency, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, economic opportunity, environmental protection and infrastructure.Where existing laws or policies create obstacles to the development of our communities, I will use the legislative process to advocate for appropriate amendments and reforms.

2. CONSTITUENCY ADVOCACY

I will formally present the development priorities and legitimate concerns of Sagbama/Ekeremor to the relevant Federal Government ministries, departments and agencies.Where federal intervention is required, I will pursue such intervention through the appropriate legislative and administrative channels and follow up on approved projects and programmes.

3. OVERSIGHT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Consistent with the constitutional oversight functions of the National Assembly, I will use parliamentary mechanisms to seek information and accountability concerning federal projects, programmes and expenditure affecting our constituency.I will not claim powers that belong to the Executive. My responsibility will be to legislate, represent, advocate and exercise lawful oversight.

4. YOUTH AND HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

I will advocate for increased access to federal education, scholarship, vocational training, entrepreneurship and employment-support programmes for qualified constituents.Where such programmes are subject to statutory or administrative eligibility requirements, I will work to ensure that our people have access to accurate information and a fair opportunity to participate.

5. COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE

I will advocate for the inclusion and proper implementation of constituency-relevant projects in the federal budget, subject to the constitutional budgetary process, appropriations and the availability of public funds.I will also seek regular information on the status of such projects and communicate relevant progress and challenges to constituents.

6. HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL SERVICES

I will advocate for federal programmes that strengthen primary healthcare, maternal and child health, disease prevention and access to essential services in our communities, while engaging the appropriate agencies responsible for implementation.

7. TRANSPARENCY WITH THE PEOPLE

I will maintain regular engagement with constituents and provide periodic updates on my legislative activities, motions, bills, advocacy efforts and the status of relevant federal interventions.Where an outcome depends on another institution, agency, appropriation or government decision, I will say so openly rather than make promises outside the limits of my constitutional office.

My commitment is therefore not to promise what a legislator cannot legally deliver. My commitment is to use the powers and privileges of the office responsibly, pursue legitimate opportunities for our people, demand accountability from the appropriate authorities and remain answerable to the people of Sagbama/Ekeremor.

This is the kind of representation I believe our constituency deserves: constitutional, transparent, measurable and people-centred.

~ High Chief (Hon) Seles Saboh
